The 21st Biennial Conference and G e n e r a l A s s e m b l y o f t h e Medical Women's Association of Nigeria (MWAN) took place in Asaba, the Paradise by the Niger, from 12th to 15th September 2020 at Orchid Hotel. It was a historic event with over 300 Medical Women gathering in the capital city of Delta State, Nigeria to deliberate on issues affecting women and children and usher in a new biennium for the association. The conference was unique and featured a research-oriented medical outreach, two pre-conference events, a welcome cocktail, a National Executive Council meeting, an opening ceremony, a plenary session, a scientific session, a general assembly, a dinner involving the installation of the 2019-2021 National Executives and a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Chike Edozien.

There was a deliberate effort to reach out to men to attend the conference in line with the theme of the conference and the biennium: Male Involvement in Maternal and Child Health. Interventions to promote Maternal and Child Health services ultimately translate into improving other health care services as well hence the need to make quality Maternal and Child Health a top priority in every society. Maternal and Child Health

programmes will contribute to improving health indices as outlined in health related Sustainable Development Goals. They will also address several areas of concern in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, widely known as the most progressive blueprint for advancing women's rights.

The sub-themes of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination, Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices especially Female Genital Mutilation, Economic Empowerment of Women for health, Overcoming Intimate Partner Violence were addressed throughout various aspects of the conference.

In order to record the outcome of the conference for posterity, this Book of Proceedings that contains the speeches and presentations delivered by Special Guests and Speakers at the event is being published. The communique arising from the Conference is also included.

The publication will ensure that the M e d i c a l W o m e n a n d t h e i r collaborating partners “Walk their Talk.” It will be a reference point to monitor and evaluate how well the members of the association are implementing recommendations from the conference at family, community, local, state, national and international levels. As MWAN is fast becoming the preferred organisation to partner with in promoting the health of women and children, the document will serve as an advocacy tool to sensitise relevant stakeholders on the capacity inherent in our highly esteemed, passionate, hardworking, intelligent and beautiful Medical Women, who heal with the love of a mother.

The Book of Proceedings will be there for future generations to appreciate the effort put in to organise the Biennial Conference by the members of the Delta State Branch of MWAN, 16 years after her official inauguration. Our sincere gratitude goes to all who contributed to the success of this conference as well as the publication of this document.
